A note from the designer:
Recently, the United States fell out of the top 20 on the list of the World’s Happiest Countries (read here). We think one of the main reasons for our country’s growing unhappiness is capitalism.
Our country is rooted in a rugged individualism that praises and prioritizes individual achievement over collective well-being. The result? Many of us are going it alone and struggling in our quest to keep up with the Joneses. We’re lonely, we’re tired, we’re burnt out.
Capitalism relies on a tension between “us” and “them.” A small percentage of people have the opportunity to get very rich, while everyone else is caught up in a pursuit of what those at the top have. In this endless pursuit to “win,” we all lose our sanity and ourselves.
All of this was our inspiration for a new tee. This tee is something of a warning to the rich who are building their wealth at the expense of the rest of us: we will unite, we will rebel, we will make a meal out of you. Power to the people.
Most of us have an early memory surrounding a t-shirt; that souvenir shirt you pined for on a family vacation, that obnoxious holiday sweater your grandma bought you that smelled like moth balls, that shirt you bought at your first concert, that shirt your mom insisted you wear, the oversized tee of a lover you spent Saturday mornings sipping coffee in, that shirt that’s been in your drawer so long it’s now perfectly tattered, an oldie but goody.
The Bee & The Fox, hopes to pay homage to the legacy of t-shirts. This brand is in control of all parts of our manufacturing and are producing everything under one roof at a wonderfully sustainable factory in Peru. The factory comes with a whole new manufacturing team that believes in fair pay, fair hours, undergoes audits, employs over 70% women, does profit sharing with it's employees, and gives back to the community.
